2024 Vintage

The 2024 vintage was warm, dry and early. The warmest Spring in memory, together with below-average rainfall, led to early flowering, quick veraison and a harvest which commenced in January; the earliest commencement of harvest ever in the region. With no rainfall and sustained warmth most fruit ripened without any issues. The Marri blossom was phenomenal this year, keeping bird pressure to almost zero. Despite the early start and warm, consistent conditions, the fruit quality is beyond expectations. 2024 will be remembered for offering wines with plenty of fruit power.

Vineyard

The 2023 Pinot Rose fruit is once again 100% from Greg Holm’s Preveli vineyard east of the Rosabrook township. This vineyard has unique clay calc soils and produces wonderful Pinot Noir from the old upright clone. The vineyard faces Norh South and has excellent water holding capacity that helped to get it through the challenging warm of the 2024 vintage. The fruit crops at around of 6-8 tons per hectare.

Winemaking

The Pinot was 100% hand picked, chilled overnight, crushed and then left on skins for a few hours releasing the fruit flavour and tannins from the Pinot Noir skins. The pressings were fined, wild fermented in old puncheons (500L oak) and then used in the final blend for added texture and weight. Both ferments were kept cool to preserve the fruit flavours and freshness of the variety. Barrels were lees stirred every couple of weeks to give the wine additional texture and a touch of phenolic grip.
Tasting Notes

The 2024 Flametree Pinot Rosé has a distinctive pale salmon colour. Aromas of red currents and strawberry overlay subtle floral, cherry and cranberry characters. Soft red fruit flavours supported by a great combination of perfume and structure shows the reason Pinot Noir is a perfect variety to use for making Rose. The palate is deliberately savoury and textured, a result of wild ferments in old barrels and 3 months on yeast lees. The palate is medium weight, soft chalky tannins and a dry finish.
